Objective of job
The Battery E/E System & Hardware position at Mercedes-Benz RD China is looking for a highly functioning, dedicated, and versatile E/E system senior engineer who can lead sophisticated projects and develop products that fulfil targets and comply with market regulations.
Tasks
- Create specifications for future-generation HV battery E/E systems and components, including BMS, BDU, and E/E connections; clarify requirements; develop localization concepts; and conduct battery- and vehicle-level E/E and functional verification.
- Develop and verify functions including voltage, temperature, and current sensing, TP detection, precharge, isolation detection, EMC, LVPN, and HVPN.
- Manage HV battery E/E system and component incidents after SOP, including root-cause analysis, countermeasure definition, validation, release, and implementation.
- Lead E/E defect management by maintaining defect overviews, steering root-cause analysis, coordinating fix timing, and reporting to management using methods such as 8D and fishbone analysis.
- Manage dependencies between major stakeholders, including drivetrain and car-line teams, and deliver measurable outcomes aligned with project milestones.
- Steer global internal and external project teams to develop and localize HV battery E/E systems according to specifications, including report preparation and presentations.
- Coordinate central HV battery E/E technical topics.
- Manage timelines, stakeholders, lessons learned, risks, budgets, and expenses for responsible projects.
- Network and cooperate extensively with corresponding departments in Germany and the RD China organization.
- Monitor future HV battery technology development, especially E/E and algorithms, and benchmark competitor HV battery E/E systems.
Qualifications
Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, automotive engineering, or an equivalent field.
Experience: 5+ years of OEM or supplier experience in high-voltage battery E/E system and hardware development, localization, and lifecycle management. Strong global project experience is preferred.
Specific knowledge:
- Profound knowledge and practical development experience in automotive high-voltage battery E/E systems.
- BMS development experience preferred.
- Strong experience in concept design and failure analysis.
- Experience with automotive industry-standard development processes.
- Experience with E/E components such as contactors, pyrofuses, CSM, and IMD; powertrain and vehicle testing; and E/E validation standards including EMC, LVPN, and HVPN.
- Experience with Vector or ETAS CAN tools and modern project management and failure management tools such as Confluence and Jira is desirable.
- High-voltage qualification as an electrical specialist or a comparable qualification is preferred.
- Clear and effective communication skills, collaborative problem-solving ability, and the ability to communicate at all organizational levels.
- Ability to work in teams with diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Passion for the work and strong ability to handle pressure and challenges.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Fluency in written and spoken English; German is beneficial.
- Practical driving experience is beneficial.
